Lamp Developer

PHP/MySQL developer to help us progress on internal developments and an ever expanding list of client’s websites. 

The ideal candidate will have sound commercial experience with PHP and MySQL working on a Linux server. Good experience with database optimisation  is required. Apache 1.3/2.0 experience desirable. Will need to have experience of best-practice front-end development, including XHTML, Javascript (jQuery) and basic CSS understanding. 

Responsibilities

  • Working internally on Aurora, our own built e-commerce platform to create the leading package on the market
    • Developing new features for each customer
    • Database optimisation
    • Upgrading older procedural code to object oriented code, with associated unit tests
    • Offering suggestions and contributing without feedback on ways to improve Aurora
  • Developing future client sites, ranging from property to e-commerce, from online gifts to education.
  • Bug fixing (fun stuff!)
  • Being able to clearly discuss with clients their requirements and work closely with the design team. 

Required Skills & Experience (Minimum)

  • Solid understanding of object oriented programming in PHP 5
  • In depth knowledge of MySQL 5.0, including database optimisation
  • Experience of MVC, ORM and unit testing frameworks highly desirable
  • CSS and XHTML to WC3 standards
    • Knowledge of templating engines, ideally Smarty
    • Extensive JQuery experience to optimise the user experience front-end and back-end..  Examples of JQuery usage would include:
    • AJAX form validation
    • Alter page design
    • Access XML documents
  • Use of version control systems.  Aurora runs on subversion, so you should have used it before and be aware of how to fix any issues that occur through using it.

Highly Desirable

  • Great knowledge of Apache, specifically Mod Rewrite
  • Good working knowledge of Linux, including command line
    • Server administration experience
  • Advanced mathematics, particularly in statistical analysis

E-commerce Web Designer

You have at least 5 years' experience of digital design. You are hard working and motivated to work from home. You are someone who is confident to tackle a brief from beginning to end. You are passionate about creating and defining user experiences across multiple platforms and dealing with high quality brands. You can nail the perfect design to a clients needs. You have extensive knowledge of photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, flash and can create accessible CSS & HTML websites from scratch. Then YOU are the next addition to our design team.

Skills needed;

  • Expert in usability
  • Strong e-commerce knowledge
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator (knowledge of print work a bonus)

Annual salary depending on your experience of £30 - £35k.

Project Manager

Working primarily from home; the right candidate will need to be highly organised, efficient and be a good closer of projects.

You will be expected to follow our internal project roll out systems and have experience of handling clients of all scales, from project inception through to go live and on to ongoing support.

It is essential you have hands on experience of working closely with clients, to strict deadlines, whilst dealing directly with designers and developers to see work volumes concluded in a tidy and timely fashion.

The right candidate will be expected to write website requirement specifications per project based on client requirements our CMS capacity and system structures, be a competent tester of built sites and have an exceptional eye for detail.

2 years experience min of basic agency based project or account management (external trades considered if candidate suits)

Duties involve:

Day to day client handling; range of client scale, temperament and requirements. Project planning and running within the Lost Ferret set up. Ensuring workloads and projects run to strict time frames. Directing designers and developers; relaying requirements and work volumes precisely. Front End Spec writing. User Testing. Platform Testing. Design Assessment and Advisory to client. Basic ability to develop ideas as necessary to assist clients in enhancing workloads/projects is required. The right candidate will have several ‘gears’ to handle regularly changing daily pace.

ESSENTIAL: proven track record and ability to close projects, jobs and workloads as a whole, neatly and with no loose ends.

Able to work to strict deadlines when the pressure is on. Good eye for detail. Solid problem solving skills Must be open to new methods ideas and structures, as used by Lost Ferret and to work as part of the team towards the common goal.

The right candidate will be confident yet personable, with good energy levels.
